Charles R. “Bob” Fay, Jr. 78, of Elkhart, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 17, 2018 after an extended illness.
Bob was born April 14, 1939 in Elkhart to the late Charles R. and Betty L. (Brown) Fay. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, George H. and Donald W. Fay.
He is survived by his life partner of 47 ½ years, Carol Highbaugh of Elkhart and children and step-children; Dempsy “Tuck” Highbaugh of Jones, MI, Kenneth Highbaugh of Elkhart, April (Severino) Marquez, Debi Slone and Tina Schroeder, all of Elkhart; twelve grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and one brother, Ronald (Bonnie) Fay of Deland, FL.
Bob retired from Coachman Industries where he worked for many years in shipping and receiving. He was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed shooting pool.
Visitation for Bob will be on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 4 until 7 at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Friends may also call one hour prior to services on Friday at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. The Reverend Keith McFarren will officiate and burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Bob may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
