Donald E. Stump, 51, of Waverly, AL, and formerly of Elkhart and Goshen, died Friday, July 14, 2017 at home.
Don was born on November 15, 1965 in Elkhart to Jack E. and Katherine M. (Miller) Stump. On August 20, 2005, he married Lori L. Johnson. She survives.
He is also survived by his son, Zach A. Stump, Goshen; step-sons, Michael Watters, Bryan Riggs, and Christopher Riggs, Goshen; parents, Jack E. and Katherine M. Stump, Elkhart; brother, Christopher L. Stump, Elkhart; 2 step-grandchildren, Skiila and Avery Riggs. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Don graduated from Elkhart Baptist High School and the Elkhart Area Career Center. He enjoyed scuba diving, horses, and motorcycles. During his high school years, he was a member of the soccer team. An avid Chicago Bears fan, Don could fix anything. He was employed with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department from 1989 until 2006 and later worked at Jayco for three years. Don also owned Gunpowder and Lead Arms. After relocating, he moved operations for Gunpowder and Lead Arms to Alabama and also ran the horse stables for RCM Farms. Don was also very active in and a co-leader for a spiritual organization called Marked Men.
Friends may call from 4 pm until 8 pm, Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, and from 9 am until the 10 am funeral service, Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the funeral home. The Rev. Tom Short of Elkhart East Christian Church will officiate. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1:30 at the Etna Township Cemetery in Etna Green, Indiana.
