Pearlie Hunt Obituary

Pearlie Mae Hunt, 71, of Elkhart, passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

She was born on September 25, 1946 in Manila, Arkansas to the late Lucain and Pearlie Mae (Bledsoe) Beard.  She was the sixth child out of thirteen children.  She was preceded in death by a son, Roderick Hunt.

Pearlie wasn’t too fond of the south so in 1967, she moved to Elkhart, IN for a better life.  In June of 1972, Pearlie gave her life to the Lord.  She served at the New Jerusalem Church Of God In Christ as a faithful servant.  She was the church secretary, a teacher, choir member and missionary.  She loved to sing and bring forth the praises of God.

In 1986 she moved to Tacoma, WA with her children to be with her sister, Laura.  In Tacoma, she was a member of the New Jerusalem COGIC under the leadership of the late Bishop T. L. Westbrook and also served under Pastor Robert Douglas.

Most people knew her as “Mother Hunt” because her home was open 24/7 for meals, counseling, games, fun and prayer.  She was a strong Faith Believer.  Her home was known as the “Community House” where you would always come and be blessed.  She never turned anyone away.

We’re going to miss Mother Hunt.  She leaves to cherish her memories her children; Roy Jr., Pearlie, Marion, Taylor, Rickey, DeShawn, Roger, Daryl, Latasha and Siobhon Hunt; two sisters, two brothers, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the New Vision of Life Church 400 W. Mishawaka Road in Elkhart.  Friends may visit with the family at the church beginning at 10:00 A.M.  The Rev. Marvin T. Pace, The Rev. Maurice Wright II and Bishop Frank Beard will all celebrate her life.  Burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.  Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
