Robert "Bob" K. Denton

June 8, 1937 ~ October 15, 2016 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Robert K. Denton, 79, of Elkhart, died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at home, surrounded by his loved ones.

 

Bob was born on June 8, 1937 in McCoysburg, IN to Lester K. and Dorothy (Cochran) Denton. On June 19, 1965 he married Carol Buzolits in Elkhart. She survives.

Bob is also survived by a son, James (Kitty) Denton, Elkhart; daughters, Julie (Michael) Reverman, Cynthia (Bradley) Sollars, both of Elkhart, and Christina (Chevis) Watkinson, Appleton, WI; grandchildren, Michael and Zackary Roeder, Brayden, Reid, and Mia Sollars, Abigail, Emily, Nathan, and Aaron Reverman, and Milo and Phinn Watkinson; three great-grandchildren, and a brother, Harry (Irene) Denton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester K. and Dorothy (Cochran) Denton, his step-mother, Vivian Denton, and sisters, Joyce Gallier, Barbara Boyd, Helen Vandervort, and Mary Sue Williams.

 

Bob was a 1956 graduate of Monon High School and graduated from Ball State University in 1966 with a BA in Business and Deaf Education.
 

Bob proudly served in the U.S. Airforce.

 

From 1966 until 1970, Bob was an educator for the Indiana State School for the Deaf in Indianapolis. In 1979, he founded B-D Industries, Inc. and served as president until his retirement in 2010.

Bob was active with the Carmel-Clay, Indiana Jaycees, where he was awarded the Outstanding Project Chairman in 1969, and the Outstanding Young Educator of the Year in 1970. He was a member of the Jimtown Booster Club, and a Boy Scout Scoutmaster- Troop 87 of Jimtown, and a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church.

 

Bob was an avid fisherman, and very hardworking. He enjoyed spending time and traveling with his family, and especially with his grandchildren.

 

Friends may call from 3 pm until 8pm, Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, and for an hour prior to the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, October 20, 2016 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery, where full military honors will be rendered.
