Rosemary Kryder Bond

Rosemary Kryder Bond, 92, died Saturday, October 8, 2016, at East Lake Terrace in Elkhart.

She was born August 9, 1924, in Fort Wayne to Frank and Rose (Johnson) Kryder. On July 26, 1947, she married James E. Bond, Jr. in Fort Wayne.  They were married for 61 years until his death in August of 2008.

Surviving are two children, Carolynn (George Williams) Bond of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Richard E. (Elizabeth) Bond of Elkhart, along with three grandchildren.

Rosemary graduated from Fort Wayne North Side High School and went on to attend Indiana University where she was president of Alpha Chi Omega. She earned a degree in speech and hearing therapy and worked for several years as a speech therapist in the South Bend public schools following her graduation.

In 1959 Rosemary and her family moved to Elkhart where she was to live until her death. She was an engaged member of her community, serving as a charter board member of the Samaritan Center, along with board service for the Elkhart Public Library and the Elkhart Urban League.  She also spent a number of years as a frequent substitute teacher of high school English in Elkhart Community Schools.

Rosemary lived a full and active life.  An avid reader, bridge player and tennis enthusiast, she also loved her grandchildren very much and always remained involved and interested in their lives.

She was a long standing member of the First Presbyterian church where she served as an elder.  Rosemary was also a member of Thursday Club and PEO, as well as a past member of Elcona Country Club.

Rosemary’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, December 10th at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart.  The Rev. Sarah Sanderson-Doughty will officiate.  The family will receive friends immediately following services in the Gathering Place at the church.
