Virdee Jackson, 88, of Elkhart, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Elkhart General Hospital.
Virdee was born on August 11, 1928 in Blythesville, Arkansas to the late Henry and Sarah (Taylor) Green. She married Fred Williams, Sr. in Arkansas in 1947. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1977. She later married Robert Jackson on October 19, 1991 in Elkhart. He survives.
Virdee is also survived by daughters, Sharon Walker and Cathy Pratcher (Joseph), both of Elkhart; Sons, Ron Davis (Sonya), Elkhart, and Kerry Williams (Celestine), Elkhart, IN; 12 step-children; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a host of step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, special nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also surviving are a special niece, Diana Neal (Robert), Mishawaka and a God son, Andre Gray, Elkhart.
Virdee was preceded in death by a son, Fred Williams, Jr. a grandson, Jermell Williams, and 13 brothers and sisters.
Virdee graduated from high school in Arkansas, and received an Associate’s degree in business from Little Rock A&M. She was employed with Hartzler-Gutermuth Funeral Home, Stevens Springs, and later ACCRA-PAC. Virdee was a member of the Tolson Center- Golden Angels, the NAACP Elkhart County, and Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted mother with a deep faith in the Lord. Before her car accident, she loved to cook, clean, fish, travel. She enjoyed being active with her church and her grandchildren. She loved the Lord, her family and she loved people. Her favorite saying was (keep your hand in Gods hands).
Friends and family may call Saturday, from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service at noon at the Agape Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Danny Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.
