Carol Dugan Obituary

Carol Koterski Dugan, 70, of Birch Lake in Vandalia, MI passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Seasons Hospice in Naperville, IL.

Carol was born on July 25, 1948 in Chicago, IL to the late Edward and Eleanor (Krawczyk) Koterski.

As Carol Koterski, she married Terry Steven Dugan on October 22, 1977 in Ann Arbor, MI.  He survives along with three children: Craig (Dawn) Dugan and Elizabeth Dugan, both of Naperville; Steve Dugan of Short Hills, NJ; three grandchildren: Charlotte, Ryan and Bennett Dugan, all of Naperville and a cousin, Jim (Sue) Koterski of Chadds Ford, PA.

Carol graduated as Valedictorian from North Park Academy in Chicago in 1966 and went away to attend Hope College, from where she graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor’s degree.  She then graduated from the Michigan School of Social Work with a Master’s in 1972.  She began her career with the Ann Arbor Public Schools as a Human Relations Specialist in 1972 and continued until 1977.  She then moved on to the Kalamazoo Child Guidance Clinic where she worked as a social worker from 1978 until 1984.  In 1984, she stayed home to raise her three children.  In 2003, she followed her heart and began a career as an artist/photographer.  Also, Carol authored several books including ‘Just Wanted You To Know-A Memoir’ in 2013 and ‘Kauai in my Heart-Ever a Rainbow’ in 2017 and ‘Surprised by Beauty’ to be published in 2018.

Active as a parent in her children’s sporting activities of baseball and basketball, she was also a member of the West Windsor-Plainsboro Board of Education from 1994 until 2000, a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Elkhart and the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Naperville, IL and received Honorable Mention in the Brookfield Zoo Photography Contest.

Visitation for Carol will be held on Thursday, August 16th from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.  at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home.  Friends may also visit Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Elkhart where a Celebration of Life service will begin at 11 a.m.  The Rev. Tim Burchill will officiate.
