Catherine L Hagans

Catherine L. Hagans, 89, of Elkhart died on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Elkhart General Hospital.

Catherine was born July 14, 1928 in Elkhart, to the late Leo and Gertrude (Pike) Backert.  She was also proceeded in death by four siblings Evelyn Crowder, Robert Backert, Joseph Backert and George Backert.

On April 24, 1954, Catherine married Jack L. Hagans in Elkhart.  Jack passed away on April 29, 2001.

Surviving are her four children, Vallerie Jo (Tim) Dorrier of Elkhart, Michael Hanks of Elkhart, Terry (Debora) Hagans of Edwardsburg, Michigan and Marianne (Gary) Glick of Elkhart.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a sister, Barbara Twardzik of Modesto, California

Catherine worked at the U.S. Postal Service as a distribution clerk and after twenty years of service, she retired in 1989.  Catherine was a die-hard Chicago Cub fan but her one true love was her family.

A ceremony will be held for Catherine at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 28th at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum in Rice Cemetery. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of her arrangements.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Research.
