Elaine E Conley

Elaine Ellen Conley, 92, of Elkhart died at home on October 16, 2018.

Elaine was born on November 13, 1925 in Bremen, IN to the late Leo and Pearl (Ewald) Balsley.  She was also preceded in death by her only daughter, Cheryl and her brother, Louis Balsley.

One February 24, 1945 she married Ned E. Conley at the Salem Evangelical Church in Bremen.  Ned died on May 27, 1994.  Surviving are three sons: Randall (Kim) Conley of Elkhart, Ross (Jenny) Conley of Auburn, KY and Ryan (Margo) Conley of Coopertown, TN; eight grandchildren: Jason Conley of Middlebury, Josh (Monique) Conley of Granger, Meredith (Jesse) Smith of Spring Hill, TN, Megan (John) Shelton of Lewisburg, KY, Marissa (Matt) Mayo of Bowling Green, KY, Christine Conley of Mount Dora, FL, Lisa Conley of Elkhart and Felicia Conley of Auburn, KY; two step-grandchildren; Carlie (Matt) Lyndoe and Molly (Jon) Ferrie, both of Spring Hill, TN.  Also surviving are ten great grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.

Elaine graduated from Bremen High School in 1943 and worked in several offices from 1966-1989, including Mouldings Inc., Elkhart Central Transfer and Holiday World.  However, her favorite occupation was that of wife and mother.  She was among the founding members of the Logan Center in St. Joseph County and also of ADEC in Elkhart County.  She belonged to Augustana Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and served on the Altar Guild for many years.  She was a member of the League of Women Voters of Elkhart County and enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, working crossword and cryptoquote puzzles and being with friends.

The family would like to thank the workers of Beacon Home Health Care, Home Instead and the Center for Hospice Care as well as Lisa Conley, Elaine’s primary caregiver for the last five years.

Visitation for Elaine will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 27th at 10 a.m. at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Elkhart.  The Rev. Randy Schroeder of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Middlebury will officiate and burial will be in Rice Cemetery.
