Patty J Showalter

Patty J. Showalter, 85, of Elkhart, died on Friday, May 5th, 2017 at Elkhart General Hospital.

Patty was born in Cass County, Michigan on June 30, 1931 to the late Veryl Fergison.  Also preceding her in death was her step-father, Delmar Went Sr., whom helped to raise her.

On May 3, 1953, Patty married Hugh J. Showalter in Bristol, IN.  Hugh died on April 7, 1996.  Surviving are a daughter, Lisa (David) Burns and a son, Michael J. Showalter (Judi Clinehens), both of Elkhart; three grandchildren: Brooke (Marvin) Poole, Cole (Heather) Burns and Jeremy (Samantha) Burns; seven great grandchildren: Kaylee, Rylee, Carter, Porter, Coral, Aurora and Teagan and one brother, Gary L. (Janell) O’Dell of Middlebury.

Patty was employed by Calco Industries in the office from 1962 until 1979.  She loved playing cards, especially euchre, as well as bingo.  For 30 years, she enjoyed traveling to Texas where she and Hugh would spend the winter months.  However, her true love was spending time with her family.

Visitation for Patty will be held Monday from 4 until 8 at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at 11 on Tuesday, also at the funeral home.  The Rev. Dean Heisey, Spiritual Care Counselor and Chaplain at Elkhart General Hospital will officiate.  Entombment will be in Rice Cemetery at the Chapel of Memories.

The family wishes to thank her longtime physician, Doctor Pletcher and his nurse, Diane, Dr. Jin and his nurses, Mindy and Caroline and also Dr. Burger and nurses Bo and Angie along with the staff of the Oncology unit at Elkhart General Hospital.

Memorial contributions in memory of Patty may be made to Ribbon of Hope or the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
