Ruth A (Niece) McLaughlin

Ruth A. McLaughlin, 76, of Elkhart, died on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Elkhart General Hospital.

Ruth was born in Elkhart, IN on August 4, 1942 to the late Perry and Violette (Young) Niece.  She was also preceded in death by an infant brother, David Niece.

As Ruth A. Niece, she married John W. McLaughlin, Jr. on June 29, 1972 in Elkhart.  He survives along with two daughters; Mindy (Mervin) Miller, Jr. of Goshen; Dawn McLaughlin of Elkhart; two grandsons, Grant and Scott Miller; one sister, Betty Warren of Elkhart; two brothers: Phil (Kathy) Niece of Evansville, IN and Steve (Becky) Niece of Nashville, TN.  She is also survived by her granddog, Tippy.

Ruth was an English teacher at the former Brookdale Junior High School in Elkhart for twelve years.  She received her undergraduate education at Bethel College and Olivet Nazarene and received her master’s degree from Indiana State University.  For many years, Ruth served as a church organist and still held on to her love of music by playing the piano.  She was an avid reader and always enjoyed getting a “good deal”.  Family, especially her grandsons, were very important to Ruth.

Visitation for Ruth will be Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home.  Friends may also call one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service on Wednesday, November 21 at the funeral home.  The Rev. Mervin Miller, Sr. will officiate services and burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery.
