Alexander Richard Gattman, 22, died unexpectedly in Elkhart on Saturday, July 10, 2021.
He was born on July 27, 1998, to Stephanie (Davis) and Steven A. Gattman in Elkhart, Indiana. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Tom Sibal of Goshen; brother, Steven A. (Mackenzie) Gattman of Huntley, Illinois; sister, Elizabeth (Sean Nowling) Gattman of Jamestown, New York; grandmothers, Frances Davis of Pingree Grove, Illinois, and Ruth Gattman of Elkhart; auntie, Nicole (Rick) Lewis of Lexington, Kentucky; uncle, Wesley (Rita) Davis Jr. of Pingree Grove, Illinois; nephews James and Finn Nowling; stepsister, Jennifer Sibal; stepbrothers, William and Kevin Sibal; and five cousins, Tyler, Zachary, and Emily Zepeda, and Wesley III and Megan Davis. His father and grandfathers, Wesley Davis Sr. and G. Beach Gattman, are deceased.
Friends may call from 3-7PM Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. There will be a Rosary service at 5PM.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger, Indiana on Friday, July 16 at 11AM with one hour of visitation prior. The mass will also be streamed online at stpius.net. Msgr. William Schooler, pastor of St. Pius, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery in Elkhart.
Alex was an accomplished musician who played the clarinet, saxophone, English horn, oboe, piano, and other instruments. He earned a bachelor's degree in atmospheric science from Indiana University, Bloomington, in May 2021. He graduated from Concord High School in 2016 and was a member of the National Honor Society and served as a soloist for the 2015 State Champion Marching Minutemen. He was first chair clarinet in the Symphonic Band and also played in the jazz bands, orchestra, basketball pep band, and school musicals. He was a member of the Elkhart County Youth Honors Orchestra and the IMEA Honor Band. Alex was an altar server at St. Pius for several years.
