Obituary

Alice LeVan, 84, of Elkhart passed away Wednesday, December 9 at Elkhart General Hospital after a brief illness. She was born May 21, 1931 in Dunlap, to George and Lucille (Graybill) Stull. A life-long resident of the Elkhart area, Alice graduated as Valedictorian from Concord High School in 1949. First and foremost, Alice was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. After working from home while her children were in school, she resumed a professional career, using her exceptional people skills at some familiar names in Elkhart business history. During the mid 1970's, Alice worked in the Athletic Department of Elkhart Central High School, serving as Max Bell's secretary. Following that, she worked for the Easy Shopping management office, eventually becoming property manager. She remained a valued employee there until her death. Alice taught Sunday School for many years at Central Christian Church where she took her young students to other places of worship to demonstrate religious diversity and tolerance. She helped found a bridge club that has met weekly for over 50 years. Her friendships with "the bridge ladies" were very special to her. Preceding Alice in death were her parents, husband John "Jack" LeVan, brother John Stull, and grandson Colin Hendrie. She is mourned by her daughter and son-in-law Stacey and Tom Nickel of Bristol; son Jack of Barrington, Illinois; son and daughter-in-law Gregg and Nancy Fore of Middlebury; brother Raymond Stull of Mishawaka, sister and brother-in-law Carol and Dean Morris of Auburn, brother and sister-in-law Jim and Carol Stull of Scottsdale, Arizona, grandchildren Hilary, Shelby, Faith, Alan, Bryan, Alexander, Nicholas and Jacob, and 4 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 1 p.m., until the time of service at 4 p.m., Monday, December 14, 2015 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. The Reverend Bob Vale will officiate. Memorial contributions may be sent to ADEC.
