Bartt
Smith
November 13, 1962 – September 8, 2021
Bartt E. Smith, 58, of Union, MI, formerly Elkhart, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
Bartt was born on November 13, 1962 in Elkhart to the late Henry L. "Hank" and M. Rosetta (Hicks) Smith.
On October 3, 2003 he married Kristine Weliver in South Bend. She survives along with three children: Connor Smith of Charleston, SC, Macy Lynn Smith of Edwardsburg and Rhiley McIntire of Mishawaka; three brothers, Brian Smith and Blane Smith, both of Elkhart and Brent (Norene) Smith of Syracuse, IN. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Jimtown High School, Bartt followed in his father's footsteps by taking over the 70 year old family business, serving as president and owner of Henry Smith Plumbing Heating and Cooling. He was a friend to all, generous in both words and deeds, routinely going out of his way to buy lunch for police officers and military veterans.
While he was proud of growing the family business, Bartt's lasting legacy is his family. He was quick to brag on his kids, relishing in their accomplishments. He cherished family time, enjoying life on the lake and sharing new experiences while on vacation. Family came first for Bartt, always.
For those fortunate enough to know him, Bartt will be remembered as a generous, gentle and happy soul. He lit up every room he entered. He never met a stranger. He made his home welcome to all. Bartt will be greatly missed, an immeasurable loss to those who loved him.
Visitation for Bartt will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 3 pm until 7 pm at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home where services will be held on Thursday, September 16 at 11 am. Burial will be held in Olive Cemetery. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bartt's name to Jimtown High School for the Building Trades Department.
