Obituary

Betty L. Bankson, 94, of Elkhart, died on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Elkhart Meadows Nursing Home. Although she was born as Betty, she was better known as "Granny".

She was born June 29, 1931, in Marcellus, MI to the late George and Mary (Smith) Eggleston.  Also preceding her in death are a grandson, George Kindig, two sisters, Delores Bryant and Nancy Feller and one brother, George Eggleston.

As Betty L. Eggleston, she married Herman Bankson Jr. on February 15, 1950, in Elkhart.  He died April 3, 1993.  Surviving are three daughters: Judy Bankson of South Bend, Nancy Triestram and Sheila (Paul) Taylor, both of Elkhart.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and nineteen great great grandchildren.

Betty worked for many years at American Nursing Home in the housekeeping department.  After her retirement, she spent many hours doing volunteer work.  She loved to crochet and was a member of Whosoever Will Worship Center in Elkhart.

Visitation for Betty will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 1 pm until 2 pm at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home.  A procession will then leave for Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where Rev. Earl Hossler will officiate graveside services for Betty.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Whosoever Will Worship Center 2819 S. 6th St. Elkhart, IN 46517.
