Boyd W. Smith, 87, of Elkhart, died Thursday morning, November 17, 2016 at home.

Boyd was born on July 24, 1929 in Prentiss County, Mississippi to Joe Dave and Vera (McKinney) Smith. On November 24, 1962 in Elkhart, he married Juanita Baer. She survives.

Also surviving is a daughter, Cathy Jo Smith, Three Rivers, MI; grandchildren Mandy Christophel and Ashley Boedeker (David); great-grandchildren Norah and Finn Boedeker; sisters, Nelene Pannell and Joann Massey, Boonsville, MS, and a brother J.D. Smith, Jr. (Josie), Baldwin, MS.  Also surviving are Juanita's nieces and a nephew, Becky Winder, Sharon Growcock and Charles Hart.

Boyd was preceded in death by a son, Marty A. Smith on July 30, 2016, and brothers, Hoyt and McKinney "Mac" Smith.

Boyd worked for Skyline in Elkhart from 1953-1968.  After his employment at Skyline, he took a position at Fairmont Homes where he served as production manager.  He and Juanita also owned and operated Brandywine Shelties, a dog breeding business, since 1962.  Together they bred, owned and handled champion shelties, earning numerous awards along the way.  He also served as a AKC judge for six years.

There will be no visitation or services.
