Claire L. Martin, 95, of South Bend, formerly of Elkhart, died on Monday, February 27th, 2017 at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's where she had lived for the past four years.
Claire was born February 21, 1922 in Upper Frenchville, Maine to the late Joseph W. and Anna Bouchard (Deschaine). Also preceding her in death were five sisters; Bernice Bowtruczyk, Claudette McNeal, Lillian Roy, Lucille Levesque and Rollande Bouchard; three brothers; Lucien, Roger and Rosaire "Butch" Bouchard and two grandchildren, Dusty and Brandy Martin.
As Claire Bouchard, she married Gerard Martin on February 5, 1948 in Madawaska, ME. He died July 5, 1993. Surviving are two daughters; Louise (Richard) Young and Rita (Terry) Myers, both of Elkhart; two sons, Donald and Daniel, both of Mishawaka: four grandchildren: Jeff Young, Jodie (Mark) Wolschlager, Jason (Naomi) Myers and Justin (Melissa) Myers: seven great grandchildren; Rebecca and Darin Young, Jack, Dan and Natalie Wolschlager, Lenoxx, Gage and Talon Myers and one great, great granddaughter, Madilyn Neveu. Also, she is survived by three sisters, Theresa Roy of ME, Irene McDonald of CT, Lucille O'Donnell of ME and one brother, Paul Bouchard of NH.
Claire graduated from Mt. Mercy Academy and then Husson College both in Maine. She was employed in the auditing department at Sears for twelve years prior to her retirement in 1985. An active member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Claire was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella.
Visitation for Claire will be Thursday, March 2nd from 5 until 7 at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 3rd at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church with the Rev. Zak Barry officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery, Elkhart.
