Obituary

Delores A. McFadden, 97, of Elkhart, died Friday, December 4, 2015 at Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa. Delores was born on January 4, 1918 in Elkhart to the late Oscar and Emma (Ines) Nye. On November 23, 1941 she married Wilbur H. McFadden. He preceded her in death on February 22, 2009. Delores is survived by daughter, Linda Nye Byrum (Neill), and son, Jeffery H. McFadden (Laurie), both of Elkhart; grandchildren, Laurie and Jeremy Byrum and step-grandchildren, Eric and Mike Hartnett. Delores is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Ralph Nye, Iva Wolfe, Harold Nye, and Madaline Bowman. Delores was a 1936 graduate of Elkhart High School and graduated in 1938 from Elkhart Business College. She was a teller with First National Bank and also worked as a secretary for Augie Bock at Bock Industries. She also worked for the Elkhart Community School system for a few years and most recently worked for attorney Willard Chester before retiring. Delores was a member of Central Christian Church, where she was a 50 year member of the choir. She was a volunteer for several years with Church Community Services, a Crop Walk organizer, and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she sang. Delores also sang on the radio as a child and at the Bucklen Opera House. Music was very important in her life as well as her family's life. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until the 5 p.m., service on December 7, 2015 at Central Christian Church. The Reverend Jim Lindskoog will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Center for Hospice and Miller's Merry Manor.
