Dorothy Mae Curry, 84, of Elkhart, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Kindred Valley View Nursing Home.
Dorothy was born on August 10, 1932 in Obion, TN to Frank and Zura (Reed) Curry.
Dorothy is survived by a host of nieces, nephews; and friends Patty and Helger, as well as a very special friend, Connie Minzey.
Dorothy was preceded in death by brothers, James, E.J., L.C. Herman, and Thurman Curry.
Dorothy was a 1953 graduate of Elkhart High School. She attended Ball State University and Goshen College. Dorothy was a nurse's aide at Elkhart General Hospital for 7 years, and later worked at various nursing homes in Elkhart. She also was employed at Wal-Mart for 10 years as a greeter.
An avid musician, Dorothy enjoyed teaching her students to play the piano, organ, and saxophone. She was involved with 3 different choirs at St. James A.M.E. Church and First Presbyterian Church. Dorothy was a devoted member of First Presbyterian, where she was involved with several bible studies.
Friends may call from 5 pm until 7:30 pm, Friday, July 14, 2017 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, and for an hour prior to the 11 am funeral service on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Rebecca Kuiken officiating. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.
