Dorothy J. Powell, 70 of Elkhart, passed away in Elkhart General Hospital surrounded by her loving family on Friday May 11, 2018.

She was born on December 28, 1947 in New Madrid, Missouri to the late Robert and Ollie (Causey) Taylor.  On January 3, 1970 she married Robert D. "Bobby" Powell in Trenton, Tennessee.  He preceded her in death along with 1 sister and 2 brothers.

Dorothy had been employed by Home Crest Cabinetry, McDonald's and Kauffman Laundry.  She was a member of the Greater Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in South Bend where she served on the Helping Hands Committee, Usher Board, Hospitality and C.A.R.E University.

She leaves to cherish her memories her sons; David L. Powell and Daniel L. Powell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mark Taylor, Elkhart, daughter; Shannon Powell, Elkhart, stepdaughters; Phyllis Lancaster and Chinesa Taylor both of Elkhart, brothers; Mangle Lee (Dianna) Causey, Jimmy Jarrell (Paula) Clark, Charles Wesley Taylor, all of Elkhart, sisters; Ruth (Leonard) Wiley, Mary Dean (Rev. Wayne) Malone, both of Elkhart, Indiana, and two aunts, Mabel and Maybell of South Bend.  Also surviving are 15 Grandchildren and 9 Great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM at Open Gate Praise & Deliverance Ministry at 137 Division Street, Elkhart, Indiana on Saturday, May 19, 2018.  Funeral services will immediately follow visitation at 11:00 AM with Rev. Lee Ross and Rev. Wayne Malone officiating. Burial will be at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, Indiana.  Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
