Dorothy G. Weitz, 90, of Elkhart, died Friday, July 29th, 2016 at North Woods Village in Mishawaka where she had been a resident for the past two weeks. Dorothy was born on July 15, 1926 in Ft. Wayne to Richard E. and Julia M. (Didion) Walker, Sr. On February 21, 1948 she married Robert E. Weitz, Sr. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1990. Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Mary Beth (James) Ash, Naples, FL; sons, Robert E. Weitz, Jr., Carmel, IN, Thomas R. (Kathy) Weitz, Cleveland, OH, David P. (Judy) Weitz, and James A. Weitz, both of Elkhart; 4 grandchildren, Amy Ash-Grover, Barbara Thompson, Matthew and Christopher Weitz and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty (Leo) Oser and brothers Richard E. and Edward W. Walker. Dorothy attended Ft. Wayne Business College for two years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid Notre Dame football fan. She was a manager with the Elkhart Water Works, prior to retiring in 1991. Dorothy was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Friends may call from 4 pm until 8 pm, Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, Friday, August 5, 2016 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Father Jason Frieburger will officiate. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum in Rice Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
