Esther Ann Slaughter, 85, of Elkhart, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Hubbard Hill Estates.

Esther was born on December 12, 1930 in Frankfort, IN to Wendell Garrett and Leora Irene (Whiteman) Hutchison. On September 1, 1950 she married Robert L. Slaughter in Frankfort. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2016.

Esther is survived by daughters: Susan (Charles) Moore of Bristol; Sharon Childers Slaughter of Aurora, CO; a son, David (Lori) Slaughter of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren: Emily (Seth) Wright, Clay (Annie) Slaughter, the Rev. Andrew Moore, Margaret (Matt) Davis, Alex Moore, Garrett (Lauren) Schneider and Meredith (Travis) Fulford; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Patricia See, Elkhart and a brother-in-law, Glen Shively, Rossville, IN. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sara Schneider, a sister, Mary Ellen Lemen and a brother, Richard See.

Esther attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Elkhart, and Burnt Store Presbyterian Church, Punta Gorda, FL. She was a member of Psi Iota XI Sorority. She earned her B.A. and M.A. in Education, graduating Summa Cum Laude, from Indiana University. In 1970, Esther began teaching at Riverview Elementary School, where she retired in 1991.

Esther was devoted to her husband, family, and friends. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed camping and traveling with her family. She was very fond of and dedicated to her many students.

Friends may call from 11 am until the 1 pm, memorial service, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Hubbard Hill Estates.
