Frieda M. Barrett, 93, of Leesburg and formerly of Elkhart, passed on to be with Jesus on February 23, 2016 at Kosciusko Community Hospital. She was born to Clark and Iva Turner on September 5, 1922. Her mother was killed when she was just over a year old and was raised by a loving couple, Clark and Iva, distant cousins of her father. They also took in her aunt Iva May, and were raised as sisters. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1941. She worked at Miles Labs (Bayer) and retired from there. Her first job was to package instant coffee and powdered lemonade for the men overseas. She married Allen W. Barrett, who preceded her in death, and they enjoyed traveling all over the country. They wintered in Florida. She was a member at Central Christian Church. Surviving are daughters, Nancy Bennett (Michael), Leesburg, Sharon Barrett Durkee (Byron), CA, Barbara Cornell, CA; son, David Barrett (Tina), CO; grandchildren, Brian Holdeman (Sherry) Chrisie Head (Dale), Missy Barton (Patric Gaska), Renee Imes, Michael Imes, Danny Imes, Jessica Imes, Jackie Jr., Christina Imes, and Jeff Barrett (Tomoni); great grandchildren, Amanda Boyde (Jason), Thomas Jetten, Bryson Holdeman (Kayla), Joseph Head (Brianna), great, great granddaughter, Kay Grace Boyd. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Iva Turner, sister, Iva May Johnson, husband, Allen Barrett, and daughter, Judy Ann Holdeman, as well as many friends.
