Gordon "Gordy" J. Anderson, 91, of Elkhart, died Tuesday, June 18 at Roosevelt Park Nursing Center, Muskegon, MI. Gordon was born on April 16, 1928, in Elkhart, IN to the late Henry and Bessie (Weaver) Anderson. On February 20, 1953 he married Florence A. Schreur.  Florence died July 8, 2016.

He is survived by sons, Bruce M. Anderson (Debra), Muskegon, MI, and Mark B. Anderson (Marla), Goshen; Grandchildren Marcie, Kevin, Kathryn, Jonathan, Ellen, Samuel, and Grace; Great-Grandchildren, Aundrea, Adelle, and Aletta.

Gordon was preceded in death by brothers, Tom and Marshal Curtis and Hank Anderson.

Gordon grew up in Elkhart where he spent most of his life. He was a graduate of Elkhart High School and Indiana University. He was a loving husband and supportive father and grandfather. He worked in the Personnel Dept. at Adlake and then Miles/Bayer. He gave many volunteer hours and served on a number boards in the community including Ribbon of Hope Cancer Support Ministry. He was tough to beat in any card game.  Gordy was also a life-long Chicago Cubs fan.  He loved music and was a long-time member of the Elkhart Municipal Band. He knew no enemies and was quick to reach out to neighbors, friends, relatives, and fellow church members. He had a way of making people feel comfortable and valued. He was particularly fond of visiting friends at their homes or in the hospital. Many people benefited from his wise counsel and encouraging words. He was an extremely humble and generous man.

Most important was his relationship with God through Jesus Christ in whom he found salvation. He was committed to reading and studying the Bible and strove to live out the truths therein. "The grass withers and the flowers fall: But the word of God stands forever." Isaiah 40:8

Friends may call from 5-8 pm, Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral home 403 West Franklin St. Elkhart, IN 46516 and for one hour prior to the 10:30 am service on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at McCoy Memorial Baptist Church, 134 Saint Clair Ave., Elkhart, IN 46516. Reverend Ray LaBorde will officiate and burial will follow at Grace Lawn Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Ribbon of Hope at Elkhart General Hospital, 600 East Boulevard, Elkhart, IN 46516.
