Harriett L. Campbell, 93, of Elkhart, died Friday, August 12, 2016 at Golden Living Center. Harriett was born on February 23, 1923 in Crawfordsville to Vernon R. and S. Elizabeth (Spray) Campbell. She is survived by a foster daughter, Tina Dorrier (Randy), Elkhart; foster grandsons, Ray Lee (Peggy), and Chris Lee (Kari); foster great grandchildren Chaz Lee (Allie), Nicole Lee, Brendan Lee, and Tyler Lee, Skyler, Logan, Dakota and Jesse; foster great-great grandchildren, Chloe, Logan, Alieah, Jace, Kazden, and a baby girl due in November. Harriett was a member of the Women's Army Air Corps during World War II, where she proudly served as a medic. Following her military service, Harriett graduated from Purdue with her Bachelor's Degree, and later earned her Master's Degree. She was employed with Elkhart Community Schools for 29 years. She taught at Central Junior High, Elkhart High School, and Elkhart Central High School. She was a member of Central Christian Church where she was active in the Choir and also a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association (State and Local), and was a lifetime member of the AAUW and NEA. Graveside services will take place at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Elkhart County Humane Society.
