Obituary

Henry Clay Huth, Sr. of Elkhart, Indiana passed away, at age 85, on June 11, 2016 at Hamilton Trace in Fishers, Indiana, where his family had been by his side. Clay was born in Cambridge, Ohio with an identical twin, Francis Charles Huth, on December 30, 1930 to Dr. Paul Oblinger Huth, MD and Marie Hunter-Huth. He attended St. Joseph Prep in Kentucky and graduated from Portsmouth Priory School in Rhode Island in 1950. He graduated from Hobort College in 1954. At Hobort, he met his wife Alison Mae (Schultz) Huth (deceased), who attended William Smith College close by. They fell in love and were married on April 30, 1954 in Williamsville, New York. They were married for more than sixty years Clay worked for Ames Company, a division of Miles Laboratories for over forty years, having worked for them in Charlotte, North Carolina; Saratoga, California; and Elkhart, Indiana—the company's world headquarters. He participated in several entrepreneurial ventures after leaving Ames Company. Clay loved fishing and hunting. He made sure his children and grandchildren learned to hunt and fish as well and taught them to appreciate and respect nature. He was an Indian Guide leader and helped with the Boy Scout Troop, attending campouts and paper drives. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working with Alison in their perennial garden and growing vegetables. He shared his skills with his children and their friends. Each year, Clay looked forward to annual trips skiing and to the beaches with family and friends. Clay and Alison, after becoming empty nesters, enjoyed wintering in Hutchenson Island with family and friends. Clay made a point of attending his children and grandchildren's baseball, hockey, swimming, tennis, soccer, cross-country, and other school events. "Dad was always supportive of whatever we did from falconry to tennis and everything in between. He encouraged us to do our best," says Paul Huth. Clay is survived by his four children and thirteen grandchildren: Paul (and Krystol) and his children Hunter and Holly of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan; Hank (and Boo) and their children Halsey, Abbey, Phoebe, and Becky of Greenwich, Connecticut; Cami O'Herson (and Greg), and their children, Hale, Paige, and Tate of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Zach (and Kelly) and their children Mackenzie, Hudson, Molly, and Tucker of Granger, Indiana. Clay was a founding member of the "Brandy Boys", a social group who played weekend tennis and were known to socialize and imbibe brandy after tennis, thus earning their name. He enjoyed his group of friends and their comradery. Clay was a Loyal Life member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. His love of brotherhood is shared with his three sons who are all members of Sigma Chi (Albion). "All Honor to His Name."
