Howard M. Weaver, 93, of Elkhart, formerly of Goshen, died on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Beardsley House in Elkhart.
Howard was born January 22, 1923 in Elkhart to the late Amzey D and Bessie F. (Grosh) Weaver. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James O. and Donald R. Weaver.
On June 3, 1950, in Elkhart, he married the former Maxine B. Woodiwiss. Maxine died on September 8, 2009. Surviving are three daughters; Jean Ann Jacobsen (Jake) of Mills River, NC, Kathy Jo Kee (Robert) of Travelers Rest, SC, Connie Coleen Miller (David) of Elkhart: eleven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren and two brothers, Harold L. Weaver (Mary) of Elkhart and Richard A. (Dorothy) Weaver of Colorado.
Howard was a graduate of Elkhart High School and attended Goshen College prior to beginning his work career. He held various jobs throughout his life including working for Eby's Guernsey Dairy for 5 years as a milkman, Henry Weis Manufacturing for 23 years as a draftsman, Kelsey Axle and Brake where he was a draftsman for 6 years and Gunite, where he worked for 4 years in quality control before retiring in 1989.
Mr. Weaver was an active member of the Prairie Street Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday school, was a member of the choir, was an elder for eleven years, was a Boys club leader and was involved with the Mission Commission. Howard also served for three years in Civilian Public Service in the United States and for two years, he performed foreign relief work in the Netherlands and Germany under the Mennonite Central Committee.
Visitation for Howard will be on Friday, February 26th from 6 to 8 at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Friends may also call one hour prior to services at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 27th at the Prairie Street Mennonite Church with Pastor David Swihart officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in memory of Howard may be sent to Mennonite Central Committee.
