Istvan "Steve" Vagi, 87, of Goshen, died at Elkhart General Hospital on Friday, September 15, 2023.

Steve was born on May 22, 1936, in Medgyesbodzas, Hungary to the late Istvan and Etelka (Herczeg) Vagi. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Maria Vagi and two brothers,

Zoltan and Jozsef Vagi, all of Hungary. Steve was also preceded in death by a great[1]grandson, of Elkhart.

Steve and his friend came to the United States in 1956 and eventually settled in Elkhart. He was employed by Taylor Products and finally by NIBCO before his retirement in 1996. Prior to coming to the United States, Steve was a technical college graduate in Hungary.

On April 21, 1994, Steve married Patricia M. Best in Las Vegas. Pat died on October 29, 2021. Surviving is a stepdaughter, Karen L. Best of Elkhart and a stepson, Timothy A. Best of Warsaw; three grandchildren: Alana Best of Elkhart, Julie Best of Harrisburg, SD and Jenelle Best of Warsaw. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews in Hungary.

There will be no services at this time. Steve was cremated and his remains will be taken to Hungary for burial. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
