Joan Smeltzer, 92, of Elkhart, IN died on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Hubbard Hill Estates in Elkhart.

She was born October 16, 1926 in Hammond IN to the late Harry G. Carrell and Lorena (Daw) Carrell.

Joan met Paul while attending Purdue University where she was member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.  On October 2, 1949 she married Paul W. Smeltzer in Hammond IN.  Paul died on October 25, 2015.  Surviving are three children: Carol L. (Rich) Habegger of Winston-Salem, NC, Mark D. (Cheryl) Smeltzer of Bristol IN, Gail L. (Ed) Kaiser of Rochester NY; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa sorority, Gamma Associate and an active member of chapter AI.

She enjoyed gardening, playing cards and knitting.

Memorial services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Hillcrest United Methodist Church 4206 E. Bristol St. Elkhart, Indiana.  The Rev. Kerry Clear will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service.
