Judith L. Cummins, 73, of Elkhart, died at home on Sunday, February 4, 2018.

She was born August 10, 1944 in Michigan City, IN to the late Louis and Louise (Puszynsky) Henrich.

On July 3, 1964, Judith married Kelly L. Cummins at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Michigan City, IN.  He survives along with their two sons; Sean Cummins of Hollis, NH, Ian Cummins of West Lafayette, IN; three grandchildren: Matthew, Sarah and Emily Cummins, all of West Lafayette and two brothers: Dr. Carter (Kate) Henrich of Bloomington, IN and Dr. Paul (Diane) Henrich of Newton, NJ.

Judith graduated high school from St. Mary's in Michigan City in 1962 as Valedictorian.  She then graduated from Purdue University in three years with honors.  She then received her Master's degree from Ball State University.

Judith was a teacher, first at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School in Elkhart where she taught third grade from 1977-1989.  She then worked for Elkhart Community Schools from 1989 until her retirement in 2011.  She again taught third grade at Pinewood Elementary School and also taught students in the talented and gifted (P.E.P.) program.   Judith was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish at Notre Dame, IN.   A lifetime member of the Purdue Alumni Association, she was also a member of the Elkhart County Purdue Alumni Association as well as the John Purdue Club and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.  She was also a charter member of the First Friday Club.

Visitation for Judith will be held on Thursday, February 8th from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 9:30 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame with the Rev. David Scheidler, C.S.C. officiating.  Burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.
