Dr. Lawrence J. Smith, 83, of Elkhart, went home to his Savior on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

Lawrence John Smith was born February 20, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Lawrence and Evelyn (Schwitzer) Smith and raised in Hammond, IN. Larry married Penelope Prickett in Albion on August 18, 1957.

Earning his medical degree from IU Bloomington, in 1962, he served in the Air Force prior to completing his residency in Flint, MI. He settled in Goshen, opening the towns first obstetrics and gynecology office, later founding Fairhaven Physicians.

Larry is survived by his wife of 63 years, 4 children and 12 grandchildren.

A private family service will be held for Larry. Arrangements are with Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home.
