Obituary

Margueritte Clair Gildea, 105, of Elkhart, passed away on Monday, October 17. She was born in Elkhart on July 22, 1911, to Charles and Malvina Carbonneau Clair. On November 22, 1936 in Elkhart, she married Austin C. Gildea, a long-time Elkhart attorney. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1984. She was the mother of John R. Gildea (Gwen) of Elkhart, and Kathleen Gildea Swanton (Frank) of Lake Bluff, IL. Her grandchildren Tamara Holmes (Christopher), Christopher Gildea (Donna), Sara Gildea Floerchinger, all of Elkhart, Brian Gildea (Eden) of Indianapolis, and Padraic Swanton (Jennifer) of Clarendon Hills, IL. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Over her life, she was involved in many civic and social organizations, including Child Welfare League, Well Baby Clinic, Booker T. Washington Baby Clinic, Sister Virginia School, Head Start and Midwest Museum of American Art.

She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October, 21st.  Friends may call from 9:30 until the hour of the mass.  Private family burial will be held at St. Vincent Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ADEC, Salvation Army, or the Midwest Museum of American Art.
