Mary M. Baines, 96, of Elkhart, died March 14, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital.  Mary was born on February 11, 1924 in Montcoal, WV to the late John Henry Denney and Lydia Bell (Bradshaw) Denny. She married the late Walter Baines on April 24, 1943 in Tennessee.

She is survived by sons, Greg L. Baines and Bob (Judy) Denney both of Elkhart; 3 grandchildren, Nicholas Marks of Elkhart, Angela (Braxton) Clarke of Harrisburg, NC and Bryan (Renee) Berry of Elkhart; 6 great-grandchildren, Jayden and Brady Marks, Ashlyn and Hayden Nelms, Jack and Ben Berry; sisters, Myrtle Peak of Goshen and Kathryn Stout of Taylorsville, NC.  As well as host of nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband Walter Baines and 9 siblings. Mary and her family moved to Elkhart in 1953. She worked for Federal PaperBoard for 32 years retiring in 1986. Mary was also a member at Maple City Baptist Church.

A funeral service for Mary will be at 1pm on Thursday, March 19 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery. Officiating the services is Pastor Keith McFarren.
