Obituary

Mary L. Combs, 84, of Elkhart, died at home on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

Mary was born August 26, 1937 in Duluth, MN to the late Claude and Alice (Tourville) DeSanto.  Also preceding her in death are two brothers, Claude and Richard DeSanto.

On June 21, 1958, she married Richard Godin in Duluth.  Richard died August 20, 1981.  She then married Bernard Combs on October 28, 1989.  Bernard died November 14, 2009.  She is survived by three daughters: Cathy (Don) Woods of Florence, AL, Camille (Jeff) Wise of Ocala, FL and Chris (Ralph) Hartnagel of Brownsburg, IN; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Mary was employed for many years in the office of Dr. Tully, a local podiatrist.  She was also a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and volunteered at Elkhart General Hospital as a Pink Coat and also in the gift shop.  She also served as a board member for the Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary board. Mary loved playing bridge, golf outings and was an avid Notre Dame Football fan.

Visitation for Mary will be held on Saturday, March 12th from 10:00 am until the hour of the service at 11:00 am, all at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home.  The Rev. Benjamin Landrigan from St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church will officiate and burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery.
