Obituary

Mary Jane Miles, 81, of Elkhart, Indiana passed away the morning of Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

She was born on April 5, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Rebecca Elizabeth (Hill) and William H. Jackson Sr.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as one son, Dwoyne Bouvier Miles Sr; three brothers, Warner Thorn, Kirk Thomas, and William H. Jackson Jr; and two sisters, Sondra Thomas and Delores White.

She is survived by her daughter, Martavia Jarvette Miles; son Charles James Miles Jr; daughter-in-law Sylvia Miles; in-laws Elonzia Daniels, Mary Noy, Juanita Miles, and Barbara Miles of IL; Ernestine (Wilfred) Love, Veronica (Jerry) Smith, Cheryl Patterson, Nikita Fields, and Alberta Giles of IN; Rosetta Thomas of MI; and Robert Miles and Edgar Miles of IL; 8 grandchildren, Tyesha Miles, Dymia Miles, Jeffery Porter, Charles J. Miles III, Dwoyne B. Miles Jr, Micah Porter, Travis James, and Ciera Green; 17 great-grandchildren; adopted granddaughters, Estefania and Tarayah; adopted son Jeff Porter; special friend Sheree James; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Mary graduated from Marshall High School with the Class of 1963 and attended the Roosevelt University of Music. She was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church before joining Full Gospel Fellowship Church. She was very involved in the church and acted as the assistant organizer for youth groups. She also sang in the church choir and played piano.

Mary was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
