Ned S. Havens, 82, of Elkhart, died at Elkhart General Hospital at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011. Ned was born June 1, 1928 in Elkhart to Harry B. and Bertha Canen Havens. He married Patricia Ann Cart on August 29, 1953 in Osceola, Ind. She preceded him in death on July 24, 2009. He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen G. Bobby Jeffcoat of San Antonio, Texas, Lori A. Jim Rushing of Elkhart; two sons, Kevin M. and Joseph L. Havens both of Elkhart. Also preceding Ned in death are his parents; a daughter, Deborah K. Havens; and two brothers, M. Bill Havens and M. Don Havens. Ned was a member of Cedar Road Missionary Church. He was a volunteer fireman in Osceola for 15 years and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was part owner for 40 years of Standard Tool & Machine. He then was a consultant for Selmer for 3 years before retiring at age 62. Then he worked at Voyager & Blessing in maintenance after retirement. Visitation will be Saturday May 14, 2011 from 9 am to 10 am with funeral services starting at 10 am at Hartzler Gutermuth Inman Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Truex officiating. Cremation will take place and burial will be at a later date.
