Obituary

Monday, August 15th, 2016 Patricia A. Whitler, 70, of Elkhart, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend died after a short, very aggressive battle with cancer at Hospice House/Center for Hospice, Elkhart Indiana. All who knew Pat were blessed to receive so much love and learn many valuable lessons from her in her 70 years. Pat was born to Walt and Verna (Thorton) Selby in Chicago, IL on October 22nd, 1945. Surviving are her husband, Dan Whitler, of 32 years and precious pup Bailey (Elkhart, IN), her daughter Judy (Chris) Pollock (Elkhart, IN) and their children Nicholas (21), Alex (deceased), Trevor (18), CJ (16) and Lauren (14) and her daughter Krista (Brad) Thomas (South Bend, IN) and their daughter Bella (4.5). After Pat's second marriage, her family grew to include Dan's children; Sonny Whitler (Valparaiso, IN) and his child Amber Thwaites and great grandchild Miles Shaffer; Cheri (Ryan Gish) Whitler (Valparaiso, IN) and children Madison Whitler and Tyge Buxbaum; and Eric Whitler (Lebanon, OH). And all of her grand-dogs, too many to name. She is survived by siblings, Walt (Angie) Selby (Plymouth IN), Dori McCarty (West Lafayette, IN), Sue Shaw (Winamac, IN) and Ed (Paula) Stockman ( Zionsville, IN) and her many nieces and nephews of whom she loved dearly and adored. Pat had a beautiful spirit and a big heart. Spending time with family was her biggest priority. She enjoyed camping, attending her grandkids sporting events (GO CONCORD!), cheering for IU, playing cards and games with her friends and grandkids. She enjoyed the simple pleasures: golfing, traveling with Dan and the family in the RV, and knitting. She enjoyed all of her travels from Disney World with grandkids to soccer in London to Israel and Hawaii. She will be missed for many reasons, her daughter's adult friends called her "Mama Pat" and the many grandkids' friends called her "Grammy". She had the kindest of hearts, best hugs and a loving way of making everyone around her feel special. She had a strong faith and was a powerful prayer warrior, her love for the Lord shined into the lives of others. Her last request was that everyone know God so that we can all be together again. Anytime you see a sparrow, smile and think of Pat. Please join us in a celebration of Pat's life Friday, August 19, at a 4 PM EST Service, fellowship to follow, River Oaks Church 58020 County Road 115, Goshen, IN. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in memory of Pat to the Center for Hospice Care, 22579 Old US 20, Elkhart, IN 46516.
