K.) (Underwood) Smith

Peggy (Dahlia K.) Smith, 97, of Elkhart, died Monday, March 13, 2017 at Greenleaf Health Campus. Peggy was born on January 25, 1920 in Princeton, West Virginia to Arron Kelly and Cora M. (Parker) Underwood. On November 21, 1941, she married Ernest D. Smith in Flint, MI. He preceded her in death February 26, 2008.
Peggy is survived by daughters Carol M. Olson (Steve), Stevens Ranch, CA, Teresa Shymansky (Jim) Solon, IA, and Linda Rainey (Mike), Avondale, AZ; sons, Kirby Smith (Georgeann), Emporia KS, and Jerry Smith, Deming, NM; 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers.
Peggy was well known as a hat and dress designer for antique dolls. She enjoyed crafts. Peggy was a member of three doll clubs, the Indiana Garden Club, the Immaculate Conception Study Club, and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where she was active in the Rosary Society.
Friends may call from 6 pm until 8 pm, Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, the family will begin a time of sharing at 7:30 pm, and the Rosary will be recited at 7:45pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am, Friday, March 17, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the food pantry at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
