Obituary

Raymond W. Ervin, 87, of Elkhart, died on Monday, February 10, 2020 at the Greenleaf Health Campus in Elkhart.

He was born September 16, 1932 in Elkhart to the late Ralph J. and Mary L (Pfeiffer) Ervin.  Also preceding him in death were a son, Ronald W. Ervin, a brother, Robert L. Ervin and a granddaughter.

On October 29, 1966 he married Bobbie J. Whetstone in Elkhart.  Bobbie died August 7, 1996.  He then married Sondra J. Huster on February 1, 1997 in Elkhart.  Sondra died on January 7, 2016.  Surviving are two daughters: Sue Ann Mora (Scott Perry), Sharon K (Humberto) Comacho and one son, Raymond W. Ervin Jr., all of Elkhart; a stepdaughter, Donna J. Peters of Dandridge, TN; a daughter-in-law, Debi Ervin of Goose Creek, SC; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two step grandchildren.

Ray co-owned the Ervin Brothers Standard station in Elkhart from 1948-1960.  In 1960, he began his career with Hartzler-Gutermuth Funeral Home and continued for thirty-three years.  In 1993 he changed careers and began working as the Club Steward for the Elkhart Moose Lodge #599 where he was employed until his retirement.

A 1950 graduate of Elkhart High School, Ray also served in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean War.  He joined the Moose in 1953 and remained an active member until his death.  He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #599, the Legion of Moose #94, Fellowship Degree of the Moose, Pilgrim Degree of Merit of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Edwardsburg, MI and was also a member of the American Legion Post 365.  Ray is also a past governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose #599 and served as a director for the Legion of the Moose #94.  He held all elected chairs in both the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Legion of the Moose.  He was also a bowler, having bowled in several Moose leagues.

Visitation for Ray will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020 beginning at 11:00 a.m  at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home where a Loyal Order of the Moose Memorial Service will be held at 12:45 p.m.   Funeral Services for Ray will begin at the conclusion of the memorial service.  The Rev. Tom Miley will officiate and burial will be in South Union Cemetery in Nappanee, IN.
