Raymond R. Markley, 93, of Elkhart, died on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Elkhart Place, formerly Beardsley House, in Elkhart.
Ray was born on March 17, 1924 in Goshen, IN to the late Roy M. and Lucille E. (Gardner) Markley. Also preceding him in death are a son, Thomas R. Markley, two sisters, Marilyn Geyer and Bonnie Kenagy and a son-in-law, James "Jim" Stine.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Sue Stine of Goshen, a son, Gary D. Markley of Elkhart; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren, a brother, Leland (Deana) Markley and a sister, Anne Hemminger, both of Goshen.
Raymond began his work career in high school at Weaver's Market where he remained for 20 years. He moved on to Del Rey where he was employed as a purchasing agent before taking a position at Leisure Time Products, also in purchasing. After retirement, he worked part-time at Mel's Diner.
Ray was a long-time member of the Winding Waters Brethren Church in Elkhart where he was active in basketball and softball leagues. He also enjoyed playing badminton in South Bend. He loved fishing, being outdoors and was an accomplished gardener.
Visitation for Ray will be held on Friday, October 27 from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at 11 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.
Memorial contributions in memory of Ray may be made to the charity of one's choice.
