Robert F. Hosler, 84, was born September 21, 1931 to the late Lester and Mary (Goudy) Hosler.
Bob fought a long hard battle with Alzheimer's for years before succumbing to the disease on February 10, 2016 at Heritage Point in Mishawaka.
He married Charlene (Sherry) Hall in 1951. Sherry died in 1998. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard (Dick) Hosler, Grandsons William Lester and Scott Alan Hosler, Granddaughter Cassie (Hosler) Withrow, Great granddaughter Mykala Benson and Great grandson Timothy Minhart.
He is survived by sons, Robert (Marty) Hosler, Elkhart, David Hosler, Martinsburg, NY, William (Diann) Hosler, Elkhart, Danny (Denise) Hosler, Elkhart; daughters, Sherry (Bob) Vorak, Graham, WA, Vicky (John) Gee, Valley Center, CA; Brother, Tom (Pat) Hosler, Bristol; Sisters, Patricia Kauffman, Elkhart, and Carole Cudahy, South Bend; 11 grandchildren, Melissa (Joe) Withrow, Tara (Todd) Trevino, Sheila (Mark) Pletcher, Matt (Emily) Rauguth all of Elkhart, Tara (Scott) Benson, Carthage, NY, Jamie (Bill) Steria, David (Marybeth) Hosler, Martinsburg, NY, Jenni (Bob) McGettigan, Clarksville, TN, Jim (Dovi) Mattox, Boise, ID, Doug (Jennifer) Bradfield, Rhodes Ville, VA; Debbie Tamburo, Charlottsville, VA; 38 great grandchildren; 7 great, great, grandchildren.
Bob attended St. Vincent School and Elkhart High School. Bob joined the US Air Force. He retired after 20 years of service in 1968. He then worked for 20 years with the US Postal Service in Elkhart, before retiring in 1990. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff and nurses at Heritage Point, Southern Care Hospice and Jennifer Brown-Miller.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 pm, Thursday, February 18, at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 am, Friday, February 19, at the funeral home with Reverend Joe Emmerth officiating. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery where Military Honors will be rendered.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VFW Post 88.
