Robert Jackson, 92, of Elkhart, died Friday October 19, 2018 at Elkhart General Hospital. Robert was born October 29, 1925 in Marion, Illinois, to the late Frank and Susie (Smith) Jackson. He married Dorothy (Booker) Jackson in 1948. She precedes him in death.
Surviving are 7 Sons: Curtis (Cheryl) Jackson, South Bend, Michael (Karen) Jackson, Anderson, Brian (Dorothy) Jackson, Bristol, Rodney (Alrica)Jackson, Detroit, MI. Robert Jackson, Jr., Ohio, Ronnie Joe Jackson, Anderson, and Bobby Lovelady, Elkhart. His son Johnny Jackson precedes him in death. Also surviving are 6 daughters: Faye, Debbie and Edna of Grand Rapids, Chiquita of Elkhart, Stephanie of Wyoming, MI, and Rachelle Jackson, of Atlanta, Ga. He is survived by 53 Grandchildren and a host of great and great- great grandchildren. He survives with 4 generations of grandchildren.
Robert later married Virdee (Williams) Jackson in 1991. She precedes him in death, but surviving are Sons, Ron (Sonia) Davis, Kerry (Celestine) Williams, and Fred Williams Jr. who preceded him in death, Daughters, Sharon (Wlliams) Walker, and Elder Cathy (Elder Joseph) Pratcher all of Elkhart. His grandson, Jermell Williams precedes him in death, along with grandchildren, Chris Jackson, Devontae Johnson, Latoya Johnson, Sisters, Mattie and Rosie Lee, Brothers, John Lee, Frank, Sydney, Oscar and Charles Jackson.
Robert proudly served his country in the Army from 1944-46 .He worked at Solid Construction and Bayer Laboratory for 30 years. He was also self employed with a part time business of his own for many years until his retirement. He joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in the early 1990's and became a Christian and faithful member until his illness. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Pops loved to fish, go to Cubs games and watch westerns in his spare time. He loved to make people laugh. Robert was always soft spoken, kind hearted, giving and loved his family. He was a good Dad, as well as a good provider for his family for many years. Dad/Pops you will truly be missed. Take your well- deserved rest. You fought a good fight of faith, an are now in your new home in Eternity. With love, your Children and all your Family.
His homegoing service will be Friday, October 26, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Hartzler Gutermuth Inman Funeral Home, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Rev. Danny Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
