Ruth E. Walters, 92, of Elkhart, died at home with her family by her side on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

She was born February 13, 1934, in Mt. Hope, WV to the late Herbert R. and Bertha B. (Hitt) Miller. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Izabelle Voiers and Janette Straut.

On September 15, 1951, she married Robert L. Walters in Oak Hill, WV. He died December 24, 2009. Ruth is survived by a son, Jim (Barbara) Walters of Elkhart, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving is her loving cat, Snowball.

Ruth and Robert moved from WV to Elkhart in 1963. She was employed by E. K. Blessing as a trombone mounter and retired after 30 years of employment. She was proud of the fact that she made over 10,000 trombones. Ruth was an avid reader. She not only read the book, but she lived the book she was reading.

Visitation for Ruth will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 10 am until the hour of the service at 11 am, all at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Ruth will be laid to rest next to her loving husband at Prairie Street Cemetery on what would have been their 75th wedding anniversary.
