Obituary

Ruth Eugenia (Campagnoli) Wiseman, 95, of Elkhart, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 at Elkhart General Hospital after a brief illness. Ruth (Gene, as most of her friends and family new her) was born May 4, 1917 in Lebanon, IN to Wendell Rush and Vera Pauline (Stark) Smith. She married S.A. "Tony" Campagnoli on Nov. 11, 1939. He died Nov. 11, 1971. She married Harold W. Wiseman on Oct. 13, 1979. He survives along with her sons, Philip (Geneele Crump) Campagnoli, Dr. Steven (Nancy) Campagnoli, both of Elkhart, Jerold (Roseann) Campagnoli of Prior Lake, MN; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 step-children: Larry E. Wiseman of Kansas City, MO, Daniel R. Wiseman of Prospect Heights, IL, Nancy J. Lerner of Granger, Gary Wiseman of Menlo Park, CA; 6 step-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marjory Ann Smith. Gene graduated from Frankfort High School in 1934, from Indiana University with an AB degree in Home Economics and Music in 1939, and did her HomeEc graduate work at Purdue. She taught 1 year at Whitestown, IN and 19 years in the Elkhart Community Schools, retiring as Chair of the Home Economics Dept. at Elkhart Central High School in 1973. She was an Associate Realtor with Best Realty from 1973 to 1980. Gene was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the National Retired Teachers Assoc., Indiana, Elkhart RTA, AAUW, a 32-year member and Past President of Altrusa Club of Elkhart Co., and Heartland Quilters. Family and friends were the blessed recipients of the bounty from her life's passion of quilting, which she was able to pursue up until just recently. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 15. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorials may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church and Church Community Services.
