Obituary

Sara Ann Kuker, (84), of Mishawaka, IN, a resident of North Woods Village Memory Care at Edison Lakes, Mishawaka, IN, was called home to be with her beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, after suffering a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was the daughter of Howard Earl and Nina Pitzner and wife of Gerald (Jerry) Warren Kuker. Sara was born in Waupaca, Wisconsin, became a child of God in Holy Baptism on February 1, 1942, and then raised in Brillion, WI where she graduated from high school in 1960. She attended University of Wisconsin Stout, Menomonie, WI where she graduated in 1964 with a Bachelors in Home Economics.

She married her college sweetheart, Patrick Bingham, to whom she was married until his sudden death in summer of 1974. During that time, she worked as a County Extension Agent for Columbia County, WI, loving her work with the 4H youth and the members of the nearby Indian Reservation.

It was later that fall when she joined the choir at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Portage, WI and fell in love the with director, Jerry Kuker. They were married on July 31, 1976, at the church, and spent their lives doing everything together. Sara was a devoted wife and mother and very active in many of Jerry’s choirs, school activities, church activities, and raising their two daughters, Shannon and Stephanie. Their lives then took them to Holland, MI and ten years later to LaGrange, IL where she worked for 18 years in the office of the Northern Illinois District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. During their twenty years in Illinois, she was a dedicated and active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in La Grange, singing in three different choirs and participating in various other groups and church activities.

Upon their retirement, they moved to Granger, IN to be closer to their two daughters and four grandchildren, attending their sporting events, concerts, and enjoying every minute she could with them. When not focusing on her family, she worked part-time as a receptionist for the Jones Obenchain Law Firm, South Bend, and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkhart, IN.

In 2016, they moved to Peoria, AZ to enjoy living in a wonderful 55 Plus Active Adult Community, Trilogy at Vistancia, where she was very active in many of the community clubs and activities. After Covid, they moved back to Mishawaka, IN due to her beginning Dementia. Sara is remembered for her loving, caring, and always smiling personality and her wonderful cooking and baking. Everyone who knew her loved her, even in her later years of Alzheimer’s.

Sara is survived by her husband, Jerry, of 50 years: two daughters, Shannon Marie Tadevich of Granger, IN and Stephanie (Robert) Butcher of Surprise, AZ: one grandson Dr. Joshua (Dr.Lauren) Tadevich, and three granddaughters, Sara (Dr. Brendan) Ray, Jordan (Zach) Jacobsen, and Meagan Tadevich; brother-in-laws Michael (Vicki) Kuker and Ronald (Linda) Kuker; sister-in-law Mary Beth (Joseph) Grunstad, along with 13 nieces and nephews.

A Christian Celebration of Sara’s Life will be held on Monday, November 2nd at 12:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church 30888 County Road 6, Elkhart where visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Rev. Spencer Mielke will officiate and a luncheon will follow for all in attendance.
