Shirley Jenkins, 74, of Elkhart, died at 8:50 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2011 at Our Lady of Peace Hospital, Mishawaka. Shirley was born August 17, 1936 in Van Buren, Arkansas to William F. and Alice Vail McGuyre. On October 6, 1961, she married William Jenkins, Jr. in Coldwater, Michigan. She was owner/operator of Del's Marathon since 1980 to 1994. Shirley is survived by two daughters, Alma Sawle of North Dakota and Kelly Holt of LaPorte; a son, William Jenkins III of Arkansas; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Elva Franks of Goshen, Bobbie Kersey of South Haven, Miss., Mary McGuyre of Elkhart, Georgia Paul Bowen of Goshen. She is preceded in death by a sister, Velta Stroder; and two brothers, James McGuyre and William McGuyre. Visitation will be Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. Service Friday, July 8, 2011 the funeral home. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Heart Association, American Diabetes Foundation, or ADEC.
