Obituary

Wallace R. Weiss, Sr., 95, of Elkhart passed away on May 12th, 2016. Wally was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa April 4, 1921 to Raymond and Josephine (Weston) Weiss. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Weiss (Devetski) June, 2001 whom he married on May 2, 1942 and and Artis Locatis (sister). He is survived by 3 sons (Wallace Jr. of Mount Pleasant, Mi.; Timothy of Over Land Park, Ks; Terence (Marcia) of Carmel, In), 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. Wally attended St. Paul's Lutheran Grade School, Fort Dodge High School, and Valparaiso University. Wally was inducted into the army at Camp Dodge, Des Moines Iowa September 1942; served as an Administrative Inspector for 42 months under Inspector Generals in the Eastern Defense Command, 9th Army and Infantry; and was discharged in February 1946 at Camp Atterbury, Indianapolis Indiana. During his work career, Wally was employed by the Torrington Company, South Bend, Indiana for 10 years resigning from the position of Assistant Secretary-Treasurer/Controller. Wally then worked for Miles Laboratories/Bayer, eventually retiring after 26 years from the position of Director of Group Services, Consumer Products Group (the largest marketing group of Miles Laboratories). Wally was active in community services including serving as Merit Badge Dean for Boy Scouts of America, Committee member and Assistant Campaign Manager for Muscular Dystrophy Association of America, advisor to Elkhart County First Junior Achievement Company that won national honors its first year, and Budget Committee member for Elkhart United Way and Budget Committee Manager during one campaign. Wally was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of Four Lakes Country Club (Adamsville, MI) for over 50 years, and a member of the Sportsmen Bass Club of the Michigan Federation of Bass Masters. Throughout his life, Wally was an enthusiastic hunter, fisherman and golfer. His family and friends will miss him. Friends may call from 6- 9 pm, Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home and for an hour prior to the 1 pm service, Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 30888 CR. 6 Elkhart with Reverend Spencer Mielke and Reverend Ted Stanley will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Donations suggested to Salvation Army, Trinity Lutheran Church, or Disabled American Veterans.
