Obituary

William Mann Jr., 96, of Elkhart, passed away at home on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

Bill was born on September 14, 1929, in Pierceton, IN to the late William L. and Althea (Craig) Sr. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Fraser.

On February 18, 1956, he married Irene Steffan in Elkhart. Irene died in 1988. He then married Jane M. Wiegner on July 8, 1989, also in Elkhart. Jane passed away on February 25, 2013.

He is survived by five stepdaughters: Janis E. (Earl) Stevens of Lansing, MI, Susan K. Russell of Mason, MI, Karen (Ian) Reay of Bishop Auckland, UK, Monica (Mark) Stegeman of Grand Rapids, MI and Melonie Gruda of Muncie, ten grandchildren, his sister, Delores “Dee” (Paul) Stemm of Elkhart, nieces and nephews: Mike (Lois) Stemm, Pat (Marianne) Stemm and Kathy Wingard.

Bill worked as a shipping clerk for Ball Band for 13 years and was then employed at Myers Men’s Wear in downtown Elkhart for 25 years, owning the business from 1986 until 1997. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where he belonged to the Friday Boys and was also a veteran of the United States Army.

Visitation for Bill will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 2:00 pm until the hour of services at 3:00 pm at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom DeFries will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Rice Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Veronica Lamb, Bill’s friend and caregiver for the past 2 years.

Memorial contributions in memory of Bill may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church 405 W. Beardsley Ave. Elkhart, In 46514.
