Alberta M. Hardy, 101, of Elkhart died at home, peacefully in her sleep, on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.
Alberta was born on March 12, 1919 in Elkhart to the late Albert E. and Emma (Blessing) Young.
On July 9, 1939 in Elkhart she married Perry John “Pete” Hardy who preceded her in death on February 28, 1981. Her three sisters: Miriam O’Neal, Pauline Sigler and Elizabeth Young also predeceased her.
Surviving are two daughters: Karen (Tim) Lockhart of Elkhart, Susan (Kale) Briner of Sun City, AZ, and one son, John (Linda) Hardy of Elkhart. She was blessed with more than sixty
grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and took great pleasure in her family. She loved sharing her swimming pool with them in years past.
Alberta was a homemaker but that didn’t mean she stayed home. She was a Boy Scout den mother, a member of Delta Theta Tau sorority, and served meals for Susanna’s Soup Kitchen and Lifeline. She supported Pete with her involvement with Cleveland
Township Fire Department Auxiliary. Alberta was very proud of her nearly 50 years of volunteering with the Elkhart General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, having served as vice president, scheduling chairman, secretary, and with the emergency room. She was a long-time member of Faith United Methodist Church. Leisure time included ceramic classes, playing cards with friends, and going out to eat. But her humor, even in trying circumstances, was very present.
Visitation for Alberta will be held on Thursday, September 24 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Friends and family may also call one hour prior to the 1 pm funeral service on Friday, September 25 at Faith United Methodist Church 22045 C.R. 18 Goshen. The Rev. John Hogsett will officiate followed by burial at Rice Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in memory of Alberta may be made to Faith United Methodist Church or Riverview Day Adult Health Care, 2715 East Jackson, Elkhart, IN 46516.
