Alice E. (“Betty”) Wiley, 104, of Elkhart died on Wednesday March 3, 2021 at Hubbard Hill Estates.
Betty was born March 5, 1916, in Chicago to the late Clayton and Mary (Clayton) Frederick. Also preceding her in death was a brother, Richard J. Frederick. On April 10, 1949, Betty married Charles F. Wiley in Elkhart. Charles died in 1982. She is survived by 4 nieces: Merikay (Lee) Huszagh of Wheaton, IL, Patricia “Tish” (Tom) Hrastich of St. Louis, MO, Alice Jane (David) Moore of Albion, MI, and Susan K. (David) Glaser of Palm Harbor, FL, and 3 nephews, J.R. “Bob” (Mary) Wiley of Bristol, IN, Frank Wiley of Palo Alto, CA and Haven (Minna) Wiley of Carrboro, NC, and many great nieces and great nephews.
Betty was a 1933 graduate of Elkhart High School and had been a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church since the age of four. She was employed as the Secretary/Treasurer of Wiley and Associates, retiring in 1975. Active in the community, she was a member of the Episcopal Church Women, St. Mary’s Guild, Altar Guild, retired Business and Professional Women, Four Arts Club, and the Married Women’s Club.
Visitation for Betty will be held on Thursday, March 11th from 10 am until the hour of the service at 11 am at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The Rev. Terri Peterson will officiate and entombment will be in Peace Mausoleum at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
